SESSION 208 - ICA: Making Change Happen in the Global Archival Community

In the 21st century archivists cannot win all of their battles entirely within national boundaries. Any profession without an international presence will lack status and be disadvantaged in the competition for influence. The speakers describe the role of the International Council on Archives in advocating for the profession at the international level and in creating professional standards and tools that can be applied in different cultural contexts. They touch on ICA's work in highlighting the centrality of archives in upholding human rights and in funding projects expressing professional solidarity with colleagues working in especially tough situations. And they will chart ICA's progresss to its present state as an open organization in which there is a place for any archives professional who is internationally-minded to make his/her contribution.
