SESSION 409 - Laboring for Access: Rearing Records in Labor Archives

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

As women increasingly assume archival stewardship of labor union collections, how does gender, and particularly their arguably underprivileged status as women, influence record accessibility? Topics include: 1) the delicate balance of access to scant documented labor women within male-dominated collections, 2) the question of a female gaze creating a heterogeneous process that affects access, and 3) specific examples of how gender subvertly or overtly factors into archives methodologies of processing, description, digital technology, and outreach.
