SAA President Danna Bell welcomes National History Day Executive Director Cathy Gorn for “Discovering the Past to be the Future: Inspiring the Next Generation of Engaged Citizens.” Dr. Cathy Gorn is adjunct professor of history at the University of Maryland at College Park. She joined National History Day in 1982 when the organization was in its infancy as a national endeavor. She became executive director in 1995 and fundamentally shaped the evolution of National History Day from a series of contests to a full-fledged, highly acclaimed, national academic program. When asked to speak, Cathy replied: “Archivists are key to the success of NHD and I would love the opportunity to tell them some wonderful stories…!” The session also features presentation of SAA's 2014 Student Scholarships and Travel Awards, ARL/SAA Mosaic Program Fellows, and Jameson Archival Advocacy Awards.
